IOW we will just lump your massive immediate problem off to someday when other issues can be addressed as well. Unacceptable

Did you even watch this debate? Hillary didn’t say she would wait to remove the pipes in Flint! She wants it done now. She just added that in 5 years she would like to remove lead from everywhere.

IIRC the woman’s question was something like…In your first 100 days will you commit to removing lead pipes from the approximate 10 million homes currently using them in the US?

Vote for whomever you want, but the “vomit in the mouth” bit is a little too much. Her answer was far better than Bernie’s on the subject, as has been her response to the entire crisis.

Did you see what she should have said, and with an easy example at hand such at the gas leak? Oh right this was the government screwing these people directly, no deep pockets to force to pay instead of the state.

Huh? What she should have said? According to whom?

Again, I ask you. Did you actually watch this debate? Did you hear the question and the answers?

I guess we’re supposed to undo 100 + years of infrastructure in the first 100 days, or else she’ gonna vomit in her mouth again.

Laughable out loud.

I saw and heard this clip. What should have been said is Flint deserved far more. Re-locations etc, just like in Los Angeles. FEMA and EPA call out. But nope, just vague promises that buy into the wrong assumptions about lead. Much like her wrong assumptions about the no fly list.

Well, I am glad you found the clip somewhere because the question nor the answers are available in the links you provided.

But here is the question and Bernies’ answer. I couldn’t find Hillarys’ response in a video. Perhaps you could share a link to where you saw the clip? Because there was much more to her answer than “vague promises and wrong assumptions” about lead.
Did she promise to have all lead pipes in the US fixed in 100 days? No. Neither did Bernie. Nobody can promise that.

Bernie Sanders pledges to “make sure that every water system”is tested at CNN Democratic Debate 2016

The question was: if they would make a “personal promise” that they would require all lead service lines removed within their first 100 days in office.

re: #8 blueraven

The correct answer was EPA/FEMA rolls in, immediate relocation for the families at risk, and all their costs covered. Like Porter ranch/Northridge. Anything short of that kind of answer was wildly inadequate. FEMA can act in man made disasters after all. Perhaps the lady who reacted the way she did sees the difference in response between Flint and Los Angeles, and it made her ill.

re: #9 Great White Snark

That is not an answer to the question that was asked, but keep on with that if you want.
You don’t like Hillary, I get it. But her answer was fine and certainly as good as Bernie’s.

Also as bad as this water situation is, the damage has been done. It is very different than a gas leak. There are other ways to handle it in the interim. Water should be delivered in quantity, and often to all households affected. Most people would rather stay in their homes if possible. Meanwhile they have to start changing the pipes now! They have to allocate state and Federal money now!

If you want to call someone out, how about the state of MI and those in the US Senate (mike lee) for holding up the funds. Not Hillary or Bernie who have shined a spotlight.
The republican response to this is a disgrace!

But Hillary is for gun safety laws so…

GreatWhite…I think you are asking for a tad too much as in specific fixes for a problem that two candidates have to answer in a general way while running for the presidency.

I hope you are keeping in mind the GOP doesn’t even get close to any specific discussion about anything close to problems like in Flint. Same with guns. You ask a lot of Democrats, I hope you ask the same of the Republicans. I have no issue with you trying to make the Dems as strong and aware as possible, but once again it is a cooperative government and the GOP isn’t being at all cooperative.

With that in mind, do you think Clinton or Sanders will even get any form of help with the GOP congress in either guns or Flint’s water crisis? What exact answer can either Democrat give knowing that anything they say may get shot down. It is better to under promise and give more later than to over promise and give nothing. It is after all politics.

I’m not doing comparative politics here. Hilary is the front runner not Bernie. Hilary Rodham Clinton was asked the question, not anyone else at least in the debate video. HRC is for gun safety by way of ending due process by way of the no fly list. Cheap play for votes, after all in a sane moment she would have to walk back suspending due process as applies to a constitutional right. Maybe walk back to universal registration which we would agree on.

No I don’t like Hilary for President. I do hope you noticed the glowing praise I offered her as SecState on several occasions. I like her fine except I share many of the concerns about her as expressed by quite reasonable folks from the center and left. Familiar issues now discounted because.. Donald. Back to comparative standards. Trouble with comparative politics is the bar can be whale feces low and still be regarded as legit. Because… Donald and the GOP primary.

As far as calling out the state etc, I figured that’s so obvious as to not be needed. Implicit in my call for FEMA and EPA to intervene is a huge call out-Pushing state and local officials out of the response. So many things unsaid.

In a sane election phase HRC’s qualifications by way of experience would be middling. Up against those with many years more experience in the legislature or as executives such as Mayor or Governor. I don’t give a lot of credit for time in the White House as First lady by way of Presidential experience. Senate career was short, SecState is probably her biggest and best item in her CV. If Warren had run i would be lookin forward to voting her in California’s open primary.

The damage is done but the fix has hardly started. Pipes? Lets start with people for heavens sake. They can begin tests and ponder options before the plumbers can even be hired.

The fixes I asked for are not new or at all unique. And as said above I’m not looking at comparisons. That sets the bar too low. I don’t see the downside for anyone in calling for a Federal response to a local and state failure of this scale. It’s kinds scary that did not happen.

The answer to the GOP Congress is to understand that they can be played to either sensible compromise or defeat in two years. Or four. Use the bully pulpit like we wished Obama had six years ago instead of last year. A recalcitrant Congress is hardly an excuse for not acting, it can only be a reason why certain things failed to pass. Despite a huge effort.

Huh? I dont even understand this at all. Both Hillary and Bernie were asked the same question and the question was NOT what remedies are available for the people of Flint. For the third time; the question was a plea for a personal promise that in the first hundred days of their presidency they would require all 10 million homes with lead pipes to be changed. Hillary said she would go even further and require all lead to be cleaned up within 5 years.
